Feeding your child using your own body can be one of the most amazing feelings. It can also be one of your worst nightmares! . If you are struggling with breastfeeding or just want to learn more, read my post “ 6 Things I Wish I Knew Before Breastfeeding”.
As woman, we have to do it all. Not only do we have to carry a child, have a baby, and breast feed. We also have to do all this while climbing the corporate ladder. We need a breast pump that is reliable whether at the home or in the office. There are plenty of pumps that are great for getting the most milk out and being reliable and convenient, but I want to talk about breast pumps that aren’t so great so you know what not to get.
So what are some of the worst breast pumps? Well, Here goes…
First Years Double Breast Pump
This pump’s claim to fame is you can double pump with one hand. Unfortunately it falls short of this promise. The suction is weak which makes it difficult to adjust both breast in the cups. The quality is sub par and it shows. It really falls short of mothers expectations and does not allow for maximum milk expression. If you’re thinking about getting this pump, think again.
Belle Ma Plethora Double Electric Breast Pump
This pump has terrible suction. It looks great but it is not efficient or reliable. For woman with larger breast the cup size is not adequate. It is not very strong and has electrical issues. It is hard to find spare parts for this pump so if you lose parts; your screwed! It is not very user friendly and I would not recommend if you have any other options.
EvenFlo Feeding Advanced Hospital Strength
This pump has to be one of the worst I’ve heard of. At its worst mothers have had issues with the pump breaking within the first week of use. I’m not sure if it has electrical issues or it’s just a piece of crap but it’s certainly not reliable. At best, it takes hours to get an efficient amount of milk out where other pumps would take 15 minutes! The suction is incredibly weak and yet it still drains the batteries. I personally haven’t heard anything good about this one!
Medela Freestyle Double Electric
This pump tends to add stress instead of relieve it. As a mom the less you have to worry about the better. So, if you want to make your life easier, do not get this breast pump! Even at it’s strongest power it lacks good expression. The quality is very cheap and not worth the price. The biggest issue with this pump is its unreliability. I have heard many mixed reviews. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn’t. As a mother, there is no time for questions. Newborns are unreliable enough. Do not waste your time with this pump!
Medela Sonata Smart Breast Pump
So this pump is actually not the worst I’ve ever seen. Some people live and die by it. The problem I have with it is ITS TOO EXPENSIVE! This pump can run you up to $400 a pop! There are other perfectly great pumps for half the price. On top of that, if anything breaks or you want spare parts for travel, you have to buy a whole kit instead of getting whatever part you actually need. This thing is a money guzzler. You would think since its such a quality product customer service would be top notch… NOT!! I have read many reviews of people who were unable to get their money back or get in touch with anyone at all when the pump just stopped working! Take my advice, do not waste your money on this one!
I understand that many people get their breast pumps through insurance, but if you have a choice, do not get one of these.
So you may be asking what should I get? Here are the top three breast pumps the Millenni-mom would recommend.
Medela Pump Instyle Advanced
This is one of the best! This pump has great portability and reliability. You can take it anywhere and have guaranteed peace of mind. I know people who have used this pump on multiple babies throughout multiple years. The suction if very strong and the motor is quiet. It has helped many mothers with their milk production and it even comes with a back pack! You cannot go wrong with this one and some people are even able to get it on their insurance. If this is on your radar, don’t hesitate!
Lansinoh Smart Pump Double Electric
I used this pump with my son and it worked like a charm. The suction was really strong and I didn’t even have to hold the cups against my breast if I didn’t want to. For those moms who have a lot up top I would definitely recommend this pump. They also have an app that helps you keep track of your milk production. You can also use the Lansinoh bottles with the pump to eliminate transfer time. I highly recommend this one and hope it does you well!
Piaek Electric Rechargeable Breast Pump
This isn’t your typical name brand breast pump, but this pump has rave reviews and a great price! I felt like I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t tell you about this one. It is extremely light and portable. It is compatible with multiple wide neck bottles and has 9 levels of suction! This is perfect for mom on the go. Not only is it very functional it’s also very modern and stylish for all my Millenni-Moms ? I will definitely be getting this little baby when I have my next child.
