5 Desk Job Must Haves for a Healthy Pregnancy
Whether you work a 9-5, work from home, or are an entrepreneur, realizing that you have to spend nine months sitting at a desk while feeling big, bloated, and bearing all day might just make you sick (literally).
But, you don’t have to be completely miserable. I have provided 5 sure fire ways to make going through pregnancy at work a more comfortable experience.
1. Snacks
It is very important to keep food on your stomach to keep morning sickness at bay. Pack a bag everyday to keep at your desk or on your person throughout the morning and afternoon.
I used to have an entire snack drawer at my desk that I could pull from whenever I felt woozy. Another way to cut down on feeling sick is to take your prenatal vitamins at night before you go to bed. This helps settle the stomach to wake up refreshed the next day.
2. Water
Staying hydrated is essential to functioning in the workplace. Keep a large water bottle at your desk to easily access when needed. Pregnant woman must drink multiple cups of water a day to keep themselves and their baby healthy. Dehydration can cause many complications; to avoid issues, keep water on top of your desk to remember to drink often, especially when that “pregnancy brain” kicks in.
3. Foot Rest
If you work a job where you sit at your desk most of the day, it can be difficult to get the circulation needed to keep your body and mind clear and healthy. If this is you get some type of foot rest. It could be a step stool, a small table, or just a box you find lying around the office. Whatever works for you.
I swear this saved my life while I was pregnant. My feet would always swell up while I was at work. It helped tremendously when a coworker suggested a foot rest that would fit under the desk.
Insider tip: If you can’t find a foot rest to use, try purchasing compression socks to keep at your desk to enhance circulation to your legs and feet.
4. Change of Clothes
Pregnancy is all about being comfortable. Keep a change of clothes at your desk in case of emergency. It’s nice to know if your water breaks, you pee on yourself, your mucus plug comes out, or if you have some bleeding or discharge you always have replacement clothes you can rely on.
Besides the emergency situations it is always nice to have options. When your pregnant nothing fits right on your body. I would get to work sometimes and realize my shirt was riding up over my big belly and I would feel more comfortable to change my shirt instead of pulling it down all day. You can’t go wrong with having clothes available at the drop of a hat.
5. Comfortable Shoes
Let’s face it we all want to seem like we have it all together when we’re pregnant. You might have an important presentation to do that day or corporate is doing a walk through so you want to look professional. You put on heels or cute wedges just to regret it later in the day.
That’s fine, but keep comfortable shoes at your desk! I would advise keeping tennis shoes or comfortable flats at your desk to change your tired old soles when you’ve had enough of those cute wedges. I kept a pair of sneakers at my desk and I would change into them before lunch so I could take a walk around the building to stay active. It would have been difficult without shoes that were supportive.
I hope this was helpful to get you through those long days of pregnancy. What did you have at your desk while pregnant that was helpful? Tell me in the comments!
