We will discuss these more, but first; I’m sure you have a lot of questions. What is a Diaper Rash? Is this something I should really be concerned about? How long does a diaper rash last?
What makes your diaper rash treatment so special? Well, let’s address it shall we?
A diaper rash is a skin irritation your baby can get usually on their buttocks or thighs. According to Kids Health, a “Diaper rash is a common condition that can make a baby’s skin sore, red, scaly, and tender.” and It can be caused by multiple irritants such as urine, diaper longevity, detergents, soaps, wipes, and other allergens.
Diaper rashes usually only last about 2-3 days when treated but it can last longer if not handled properly. If it lasts over 5 days please speak to a physician. Diaper rashes can develop into terrible infections if left untreated. It is very serious and should be addressed immediately. Thankfully with this hack you won’t have to worry too much about that.
Let’s get down to the dirty details.

Step #1
The first step to your baby never having a diaper rash is to change their diaper regularly. Newborn’s diapers need to be changed 8-10 times a day! (I could have sworn my son was peeing and pooping on purpose).
If you find yourself only changing your baby 4 times a day something isn’t right. They are constantly peeing and pooping so they need to be changed multiple times so their bodily fluids won’t irritate their skin.
Doing this will drastically decrease the occurrence of diaper rash. If your child is not peeing or pooping regularly please consult your pediatrician.
Another way to decrease diaper rash is to go a size up on their diapers to give their private areas room to breathe. If the diaper is too tight it can irritate their skin and cause an infection.
Step #2
The second step is to use scent free wipes. Scents can irritate babies delicate skin. Water wipes are great for babies, especially if their skin is very sensitive. These wipes are great and are efficient at cleaning up messes.
Try putting them in a warmer to easily wipe away poop. If you want wipes that are a little thicker, try the huggies wipes.
These are the ones we used for our son and they are amazing! They are scent free and hypoallergic. We never had any issues with using these wipes. You will use wipes on your child multiple times a day so it is vital to use the best. If you see your child getting irritated by a certain type of wipe change to another kind.
Step #3
The final step, step three. One word. Boudreaux’s! This butt paste will save your child’s life (well their butt).
Here’s the hack. When you get pregnant, so many people will try to sell you on the best diaper cream for your baby. While it is important to have a good diaper cream, its more important to know how to use it.
For the first three months put a dime size amount of butt paste on the babies bottom every single time they poop. You heard me right, every time they poop for 3 months! Longer if you want to. My husband was god spent on our son not having a diaper rash (from inheriting our bad skin).
We put Boudreaux’s butt paste on him every single time he pooped and he never had a diaper rash. All you have to do is wipe off the poop from your child’s behind, then before you put on the fresh diaper put some butt paste on. Then you can put on the new diaper.
It sounds like a lot but it is so inexpensive and concentrated that we only used one tube of butt paste that entire time. If you do this, you significantly increase the chance of your baby never having a diaper rash. This is one of the best hacks I did as a first time mom and I couldn’t hold the secret anymore. Trust me it works!
This is a great item to put on your registry! It is definitely a newborn must have and its an inexpensive way to save your baby a lot of pain.

The Butt Paste really did help my twins also. At the first sign of redness, I would use it and we avoided diaper rash as much as we could. Great tips!
awesome! I’m glad it helped you!
I personally used vaseline and it works so well! We use butt paste in the NICU as well because of all the antibiotics
I think the most important thing is using it more often than waiting until the last minute when they already have a bad rash.
